After drawing raves for creating Michelle Obama’s inaugural ensemble, designer Thom Browne took home the menswear designer of the year award.
They say birds of a feather flock together, and even though the feathers — from skirts, bags and a sky-high headband — were flying at the CFDA Awards on Monday, no two people or outfits were alike.

THE FANTASTIC WORLD OF SCIENCE FICTION inspired this month’s cover story, from the Blade Runner–esque styling on set to the accompanying essay penned by cyberpunk “noir-prophet” William Gibson, whose seminal novel Neuromancer, originally published in 1984, first imagined a dystopian future ruled by computers, hackers and an alternate reality called “cyberspace.”

‘‘Don’t take things too seriously,’’ said Karl Lagerfeld standing next to a towering wind turbine inside Paris’ Grand Palais, ‘‘especially not fashion.’’
Chanel’s veteran designer, with trademark humor, thus summed up an important message of this Paris season.
The iconic house’s fun, young collection headlined the penultimate day of Paris spring-summer 2013 show.

Racegoers at one of Europe’s most famous annual race meetings will have to pass strict rules on their attire before they can collect their winnings, Sky News reported Sunday.
Royal Ascot, which is held at the historic English racecourse of the same name, has always been as much about the fashion as the horses for many of the 300,000 people who flock to the summer’s high society event.
But organizers have tightened rules on acceptable wear this year after criticism of sartorial standards that have been more loosely enforced in recent years.
The race course will employ a team of specially-trained “dress code assistants” to ensure the circuit’s new dress laws are observed.

The Prince of Wales quipped last night that it has taken him 64 years to attain “fashion icon” status. “I seem to have lurched from being the best-dressed man to the worst-dressed man,” he added. “I don’t know why. Perhaps it is to sell publications.”
If fashion designers and rappers – including Tinie Tempah – were unsure of royal protocol, perhaps they could spare a thought for Prince Charles, who is not often seen at fashion parties. But the two cultures hit it off.
The occasion was a suitably grand reception, hosted by the heir to the throne at St James’s Palace, to launch the inaugural London Collections: Menswear which will see more than 50 British designers take to the catwalk in London over three days to rival menswear collections in New York, Milan and Paris for the first time.

Dozens of A-list stars turned out Monday night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate two visionary artists of the fashion industry.
The Annual Costume Institute Gala is one of New York City’s best-dressed red carpet events. The event is known as the “Oscars of the East.”
“It’s another illustration of what makes this city so exciting,” actress Sarah Jessica Parker said. “In large part due to Anna Wintour.”
Wintour, the co-chair and Vogue magazine editor-in-chief, played host to a crowd draped in masterpieces. “I always say you can look at a great fashion photograph and you can tell just as much as what’s going on in the world as a CBS news program,” Wintour said. “I mean, fashion is history, fashion is culture, fashion reflects the times, and that’s really what the Costume Institute sets out to do.”

Now that’s one way to make a memorable fashion statement and avoid becoming one of the celebrities who got slimed … what would the point be?
At least night’s Kids’ Choice Awards, Katy Perry showed off a few inches of her midriff in a neon green ensemble with matching peep toe heels …
… and a sports bra-like top dripping in slime.
