If there was any colour you didn’t know existed, you’d have found it on the ramp of Fashion Pakistan Week’s day three; well almost any colour. From the simple whites to the brightest reds and blues, the stunning array of colours on display even managed to camouflage the flaws, including the nearly one-and-a-half hours of delay!
Shamaeel Ansari’s collection, which went on the ramp first, was focused on the colours of nature — greens, reds, blacks, browns, oranges and whites of course. Kimono style kurtas, short flared bordered tops and wraps lent a rather boho-chic effect to the entire collection. While it wasn’t exactly the most outstanding collection, clever layering of textures and fabrics did quite a the trick of making it passable.

Equestrian styles dominated two major collections on day six of Paris fashion week, with horse-riding vestments — some comfortably elegant, some constrictingly racy — the motif explored by Hermes and Givenchy.
The gaucho or Argentine cowboy inspired a cool and confident mix of clothes at the Hermes show, set in the Ecole des Beaux Arts in the heart of Paris’ Saint Germain area. The location seemed to have rubbed off on the collection, with a graceful Left Bank chic softening the edge of ponchos, chaps and coats held like matador’s capes.
Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, meanwhile, turned on the horsepower for a pulse-quickening show complete with retro variations on jodphurs, riding jackets and racing boots.
In other collections, French designer Alexis Mabille revamped the school-girl bow ribbon, and Akris channelled the square silhouette — one of the defining looks this season.
Monday’s ready-to-wear shows include Chloe and Yves Saint Laurent.

The casual attire and teenage scowl of yore seem are becoming a thing of the past as far as Kristen Stewart is concerned.
Not only was the 21-year-old actress smiling as she enjoyed Paris Fashion Week today but she donned TWO sexy outfits.
This morning she stepped out to the Balenciaga show in skintight leather trousers then this afternoon, she was wearing it in jacket form – with a sexy sheer blouse underneath.
Kristen worked this look for a visit to seafood restaurant La Duc, in the French capital.
And taken with all the other evidence, it suggests that the brunette is developing a highly assured sense of fashion continuity.
Her new look is rock chick, and more than anything it’s sexy.
Kristen was seen leaving her hotel in a printed silk top and high-waisted leather trousers which she teemed with open-toe sandals.
The Twilight actress also had a structured jacket to finish off the look.

Skin is not in – rather, keeping something to the imagination will be in style next fall.
New York Fashion Week wraps Thursday, as designers presented their fall 2012 collections. While it’s certainly the time for tights and outerwear, cleavage was a rare commodity on the runways.
Whether designers were going for the look of the tasteful sophisticate or the rocking hipster, most had one common thread – the use of plenty of fabric.
A few trends emerged – the structured, polished look of the lady continued to dominate collections, notably from designers Tory Burch, Vera Wang and J. Crew.
“This is about understated sexy,” designer Tory Burch said before her runway show Tuesday.
That said, these looks still have that modern edge with bright splashes of color – namely fuschia, cobalt blue, orange-red, mustard and teal. Plaids were far from boring in the J. Crew presentation – ankle-cropped pants in myriad prints were colorful and modern. Sure, it was a little ’60s secretary – but she pops on a bright orange jacket before strolling out for the evening, in a pair of pointed sapphire blue pumps.

Red is Christie Brinkley’s color.
The veteran supermodel returned to the runway Wednesday night for the Red Dress Collection fashion show, an annual New York Fashion Week kickoff event that aims to draw attention to women’s heart health by putting celebrity catwalkers in a parade of gowns by some of the country’s most famous designers.
Strutting to “Uptown Girl,” she was all smiles in her Pamella Roland gown — even after a little stumble on the dress’s hem.
Brinkley is a supporter of the Heart Truth campaign, headed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and has participated in this event before. This year, though, she hesitated before deciding to don a dress again. Her own mother is suffering from serious heart disease, having experienced five strokes and a heart attack, and right now Brinkley says she feels like she should be spending quality time with her parents.
But they’re the ones who actually nudged her to do it, she said in a teary telephone interview Tuesday. “My parents understand more than anyone about the importance of getting the right care. They’re proud of me that I’ve reached a place where I can give back.”

Hong Kong Fashion Week 2012 Fall/Winter has shifted its focus to design from the earlier emphasis on quality manufacturing. This is in tune with the Hong Kong government’s policy to promote “creative industries.”
Around 1,900 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions are displaying the latest fashion in apparels and accessories at this year’s Fashion Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
“World Boutique” remains the key design-focused event at the 10th edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Week, which concludes on January 19, 2012.
During the week, latest collections of four globally renowned fashion designers – Shanghai’s Qi Gang, London’s Craig Lawrence, Hong Kong’s Hidy Ng and Paris’s Risto Bimbiloski – were launched.
The fashion event introduced few upcoming designers from Hong Kong to international buyers, including Bendy Woo, Hin Lee and Cecilia Yau.
The Fashion Week also included the “Hong Kong Fashion Designers Contest” which attracted young local talents.

Equestrian collection from knitwear brand Coven formed the highlight on day two of winter 2012 fashion week at Rio de Janeiro.
Coven, the label from Minas Gerais, an interior State in Brazil, presented collection of designer Liliane Rebehy. It had T-shirts with geometric embroidery, Mariachi-style trousers in copper coloured lurex and flirty crocheted skirts. The unique collection was different from other lines that dominate catwalks at fashion shows.
Another highlight of the day was a collection by designer Thiago Marcon, which had an unlikely Brazilian fabric. The dresses in printed chiffon had a patchwork that resembled faux fur. The material was bulky and the skirts looked very unconventional on the thin models.
But, the lighter dresses were interesting as graphic touches gave them a slight modern look. These included dresses having a design of growling lion and ivory chiffon blouses.
The day also saw appearance of three Brazilian television celebrities walking the ramp.

IN a bid to sharpen the talent of local designers, the Fiji Fashion Week is focused on starting a fashion school which will stand at the crossroads of design thinking and innovative product development in the form of ideas, concepts and clothing.
Fiji Fashion Week managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said the school, which is expected to begin enrolment at the end of the year, would provide students with the industry knowledge and vocabulary to succeed in designing wearable designs.
“We hope to raise the understanding of designers, therefore, the fashion school will provide the best opportunity for our designers,” she said.
“The school will introduce courses like concepts of designs in both fashion and interior and also the understanding of fabric and construction of designs.”
As students learn to excel in designs, Ms Whippy-Knight said they had been encouraged to look outside the immediate context of fashion design and marketing to assess the needs of the ever-changing global economy.

Small talk among fashion people generally begins with flattery and the complimentary acknowledgment of some wardrobe element or another.
But discussing l’ete indien was the main conversational gambit during the unseasonably warm start of Paris Fashion Week.
Heat can be democratic; with temperatures hitting 29 degrees, editors and buyers could do little to avoid a dewy glow, both within gilded salons and in gritty alternative venues that had impact but no airflow.
The maison prive that played backdrop to the Nina Ricci show was so lacking in circulation that Anna Wintour removed her signature optical armour until the first model appeared. Thankfully, paper fans were provided for the Lanvin show. All that flapping in a blacked-out tent had the effect of a wall of butterflies.
And no one was complaining per se. It was more a question of “What do I wear?”
This is where things got a bit confusing – and amusing – because everyone had descended on Paris to see what we’ll be wearing come spring, when the weather heats up as it should.
Except that it was hard to look at many of the clothes – a photo-printed day dress from Dries van Noten, a Rick Owens columnar skirt, a yellow ochre leather jacket at Carven – and not want to wear them immediately.
