There is always a fashion week around the corner in some city in India. But with designers as over-worked and under-rested as the Indian cricket team, will this artistically sensitive community also do its mite to support Anna (Hazare) for the next ramp show?
There is no doubt that the anachronistically dressed Gandhian has effected a resurgence of retro and triggered a revalidation of white khadi for a new generation that should catapult him into the same league as the fashion world’s Anna (Wintour).
Indeed, thanks to him there has been an unexpected Indian contribution to the current international Autumn/Winter 2011-12 accent on ‘statement’ accessories as well. Though the dhoti Anna wears is yet to catch on with a motorcycle and metro-rail habituated youth, his inscribed Anna topis (a 21st century recasting of the defunct headgear paradoxically named after a man who never wore it, Mahatma Gandhi) are undoubtedly the fashion statement of this season of discontent.
Thanks to its sleek silhouette and androgynous appeal (another A/W 2011-12 trend) the chances of it making an international splash are high, especially as it has potential for a seamless transition from couture to pret-a-porter.

(CBS) “Glee” stars are lending their voices to Fashion’s Night Out.
Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and the rest of the cast covered David Bowie’s “Fashion” for a new music video to promote the annual September event celebrating style and shopping.
The stars don designer duds for the video, including clothing from Prada, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten, according to The New York Times.
Jane Lynch also makes an appearance, carrying Sue Sylvester’s trademark megaphone. At the beginning of the video, she declares “I just love fashion,” and ends the clip by shouting: “Now get out and shop!”
The video, which is now online, will make its official debut Tuesday night during a rerun of the Lady Gaga episode of “Glee.” The video also will be streamed on fashionsnightout.com, fox.com and vogue.com, as well as on signs in Times Square and taxi TV screens.
The third Fashion’s Night Out will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, in cities around the world. The cast has been named official spokespeople for the event.
Lady Gaga is known for many things including her catchy song lyrics and high energy performances both on and off the concert stage. Gaga is also known for her unique fashion sense.
Many of the costumes and matching accessories that the pop singer wears on stage were actually designed by Gaga herself, sometimes to correspond with specific performances. Her outfits range from simple catsuits to beautiful gowns to the outright eccentric, such as the dress and accessories that she wore when taking stage at the MTV Video Music Awards last September. The dress was made of a bodice and boots, covered in fashioned layers of fresh meat cuts. Other unique dresses include the see-through bubble dress, that featured carefully placed plastic bubbles.
Other Gaga dresses and stage costumes that are unique, but not quite as “out there” include a set of dresses that featured origami like designs, as well as the Armani dress that she sported at the 2010 Grammy Awards ceremony. The Armani dress was best described by US Magazine as being a “silk, orb-like dress.”
Lady Gaga is also known for her equally as interesting skirts, shoes and boots, hats, wigs, gloves, and glasses, as well as some of her interesting makeup takes, like that seen in the video for her hit song “Born This Way.” Many fashion companies and independent designers closely follow Gaga’s fashion for inspiration or to supply knock-off designs.
The amount of press coverage that Gaga receives from the news media as well as members of the Paparazzi in addition to Twitter and search engine trends provide evidence that her designs are coveted and in-demand by the public. Those wishing to find suppliers of Gaga style fashions can find numerous fashion houses, retail chains, and independent boutiques that cater just to diehard fans!
The fourth day of the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week was dominated by a mixed presentation of haute and casual couture by Indian designers.
Models sizzled on the ramp, dressed in exquisite spring summer attire designed by renowned fashion designers at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).
The day saw models sashay down the ramp in designer Reynu Tandon’s collection made of digital print outfits in Lycra material.
Her collection varied from dresses, tops, tunics, lounge wear to shorts, beach wear and gowns targeting the urban rich brigade of women who believe in looking stylish and chic at the same time.
“Look at her she is carrying a digital printing saree, which is a new thing we have introduced this time also, and it is in lycra. It is not normal georgette or anything what we have done before, we have created something new,” said Tandon.
Bollywood celebrities were conspicuous by their absence during the fashion week and only Femina Miss India World 2011 Kanistha Dhankhar was seen walking the ramp for couture designer Atsu Sekhose.
On the other hand, designer Anita Dongre decided to do casual for her latest collection that showcased feminine outfits in pastel shades.
